Learn these 5 Braid Techniques

Summer is here, and it’s the perfect time to refresh your style with some new braid techniques! Whether you’re hitting the beach, attending a summer festival, or just enjoying the warm weather, braids are a versatile and chic way to keep your hair looking fabulous and feeling cool. Get ready to teach all your girlfriends these braiding techniques, because they are sure to impress!!

Rope Braid

A rope braid is a two strand, twisted braid. It’s definitely the easiest to learn and do on your own hair, but that doesn’t mean it looks any less impressive.
  1. Start by separating your hair into two even sections.
  2. Twist each section in the same direction (ex. Towards your face)
  3. Wrap the two twisted sections around each other going in the opposite direction (ex. away from your face).
  4. Secure with a hair tie

Fluffy 3 Strand Braid

Another great braiding technique is the fluffy 3 strand braid. This braid is incredibly simple and starts with just a normal 3 strand braid. The only difference is how you style it in the end. This style creates a more full braid. We recommend starting with some texturizing spray to maximize volume. You can even use extensions to add thickness!

Braid
  1. Split your hair into 3 even sections.
  2. Braid the hair by taking one of the outside sections and placing it over the middle section, making it the new middle section.
  3. Repeat step 2 with the other outside section.
  4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 until you have braided as far down as you desire.
  5. Secure with a hair tie.
Fluff it
  1. Starting at the bottom of the braid, gently pull on the outer edges of each outside section on the braid.
  2. Make your way up the braid, so that each individual section has been puffed.
  3. Finish with hairspray.

Fishtail

The fishtail is another simple but impressive looking braid. It is a quick braid technique that will keep your hair from tangling while swimming, laying on the beach or working out this summer.
  1. Split your hair into 2 even sections.
  2. Take a smaller portion of hair from the outside edge of the right section and pull it over, adding it to the left section
  3. Take a smaller portion from the outside edge of the left section. Pull this portion over and add it to the right section.
  4. Repeat these steps until you have braided as far down as you’d like.
  5. Secure with a hair tie.

4 Strand Braid

A four strand braid is a beautiful technique that uses four sections of hair (obviously). This is a more difficult technique and requires some practice in order to get the hang of it, but once it’s perfected, you’ll wonder how you ever lived without it!
  1. Start by splitting your hair into 4 even sections.
  2. Take the far left section; pull it over the second section and then under the third section.
  3. Take your far right section; pull it under the now third section (was first section) and over the second section (was third section).
  4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 until you have braided as much as far down as you desire.
  5. Secure with a hair tie. (These steps are interchangeable. You can start with the right section or the left section.)
